MDU Resources Group, Inc. companies and employees have been recognized for their efforts through the following awards related to environmental practices:

Energy

  • Fidelity E&P’s Sage Grouse Habitat Protection Program was nominated for the Bureau of Land Management’s Best Management Practices Award Nomination in 2006.
  • The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) honored Fidelity E&P in October 2004 with a major environmental award for the company’s involvement in Soil Monitoring as a part of the Tongue River Agronomic Monitoring and Protection Program. The award recognized Fidelity E&P’s sponsorship of the program.
  • Fidelity E&P received a Fluid Minerals Award for Community Outreach and Economic Security from the Bureau of Land Management in June 2004. The company received the award for its coalbed natural gas operation in the Powder River Basin of eastern Montana and Wyoming.
  • In June 2000, Fidelity E&P received a Bureau of Land Management Director’s Excellence Award for the company’s environmental stewardship efforts during the ongoing development of natural gas in the Bowdoin Field in north central Montana.

Construction Materials

  • NAPA Diamond Plant Award
  • Knife River Corporation – Western Oregon Division’s Floodplain Restoration project won the 2001 Oregon Plan Award from the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries.
  • Knife River Corporation – North Central Partners for Parks program was honored in 2001 as a Silver Medal winner of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s Community Relations “Good Neighbor” Award.
  • Knife River – Rogue Aggregates Rogue River project has won several awards; the 2002 Oregon Plan Award for protecting fish and their watersheds, presented by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries Award Committee; and the 2005 Good Neighbor Award for outstanding contribution to the Rogue Watershed, presented by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Utility Resources

  • Montana-Dakota has been recognized for and has maintained annual certification status under the Tree Line USA® program since 2004. The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, recognizes public and private utilities that demonstrate practices that protect and enhance America’s urban forests.
  • Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.’s environmental manager was among those honored with the 2006 Distinguished Service Award by the Lignite Energy Council in recognition of efforts in Mercury Controls Research for lignite-based electric generating facilities.

MDU Resources has two environmental integrity awards that recognize a successful employee program, project or activity that reflects our environmental policy and philosophy. The awards include the Award for Reclamation and Habitat Enhancement and the Award for Environmental Stewardship. Since the awards inception in 1993, 43 awards have been granted to our employees for their efforts.
