To counter rising fuel costs, Knife River Corporation has implemented a fuel conservation program that educates employees and promotes fuel conservation measures throughout the company. The program consists of training sessions that encourage employees to use resources as efficiently as possible and informs them of the proper procedures to use when shutting down diesel-fueled engines.
The program has both monetary and environmental benefits. The company saves money through reduced fuel usage and in reduced maintenance needs on diesel-powered equipment. The environment is positively impacted because a valuable nonrenewable resource is conserved and diesel emissions are reduced, which reduces the amount of carbon dioxide, particulate matter and nitrogen oxide being released into the environment.
