Corporate Responsibility

MDU Resources builds and repairs the infrastructure our nation needs — the roads, the power lines, the electrical wiring and appliances, the building foundations. And MDU Resources supplies the energy and fuel our nation needs — building a strong America. In doing so, MDU Resources cannot overlook its responsibility to the environment, the communities we serve and our stakeholders.

Through established operational practices and by leading or participating in a number of programs, MDU Resources helps ensure a viable environment. These practices include minimizing waste and maximizing resources, supporting environmental laws and regulations that are based on sound science and cost-effective technology and complying with or exceeding all applicable environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements.

MDU Resources makes a positive impact in a variety of ways in the communities where it conducts business. The salaries paid to nearly 8,000 employees, federal, state and local taxes it pays, the charitable donations it provides, the infrastructure and equipment investments all are among the ways MDU Resources makes a positive impact.

MDU Resources also has given back to the communities it serves through contributions totaling more than $21 million to worthwhile charities and organizations. MDU Resources is proud to support qualified organizations that enhance quality of life. MDU Resources’ philanthropic goal is to be “a neighbor of choice.”

MDU Resources bears a tremendous responsibility to its employees. First and foremost, safety and health must be a core principle to maintaining a quality work force, and senior management is committed to safety and health in the workplace. MDU Resources makes continued investments in safety training to meet the needs of individual business units and employees. Learning through career-development training and educational opportunities also is supported. Employees are encouraged to go beyond the assistance the corporation provides, which will help them keep pace with change and improve their career advancement opportunities.

Much of a corporation's responsibility is now being categorized as its "sustainability." Sustainability is important to society because it ensures resources, services and products will be available to sustain life in a manner that is expected. A corporation’s commitment to sustainability also is important to shareholders and customers because it helps ensure that a business will remain viable into the future.
